When I photographed this Helvella on November 1st I suspected,
because of the white streak on the left side of the cap, that it was
being parasitized by Hypomyces cervinigenus. This fungus attacks the
Helvella species, especially the lacunosa. The next photo, taken 13 days
later shows the Hypomyces taking over.
