Cytisus scoparius

Scot's Broom was brought to BC from Scotland in the 1850’s as a garden ornamental
by Captain Walter Grant who first planted it in Sooke.

Ecological Impact:

Can produce dense, impenetrable thickets that impact Garry Oak woodlands
and other Sensitive Ecosystems. Limits the movement of large wildlife.
Possesses photosynthetic stems which enable year-round growth,
leading to displacement of native plant species.

Human - Its fragrance can produce an allergic reaction in some people.
