This Suillus granulatus has been parasitized by a variety of Hypomyces
known as Syzygites megalocarpus. In the ten years I have been photographing
mushrooms,I have never seen this particular mold before. It is prevalent in
several areas I have traversed this Autumn.
Syzygites megalocarpus is not picky about its victims, which have been documented from more than 65 different genera in the United States,
so it should be expected on virtually any mushroom.
I was unable to locate information regarding it's appearance in Canada.
