Camino de Santiago / Saint James's Route

Saint James, Jacob the greatest, Santiago in Spanish, Saint Jacques in French, Tiago in portuguese, in hebraic Yacob (Jacó), after crucifixion of Jesus Christ, preached the gospel at Galicia, region where he learnt to love very soon. Returning to Jerusalem, he was decapitated by king Herodes and legend has it that his body was taken back to Spain in a boat of stone, removed by angels in a trip that last for seven days and was buried in Galicia. In the beginning of the millennium the legend still existed; a peasant, guided by lots of stars found in a big field, the apostle's grave.
The news spread everywhere taking millions of Christians to go on pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela,a city that has began at that region. The word Compostela, according to the legend, has its source on field of stars.
Since those times, thousands of anonymous pilgrims cross this magic route, the only one in the world that hasn't began for commercial reasons. Some of them, such as Carlos Magno, El Cid, San Francisco de Assis, Fernando de Aragón and Isabel de Castilla, also crossed the route and left their names on History.
Still today the history of the route remains, with pilgrims not less famous from contemporaneous history, such as artists, writers, historians, etc.
