IMG_8230_DXO.jpg

Why is Michelle grinning? She's squinting into the late afternoon sun! But also it's the first session
with her Really Right Stuff BH-55 ballhead. Her previous small offset Gitzo ballhead would creep badly with a long or heavy lens.
Seen here using a Canon 300mm f/4L IS USM lens with 68mm Kenko extension tubes on a Canon XTi with cable release.
Typical long lens setup for photographing small insects.

This is one of my favorite pictures of Mom ever and I will treasure it always! Seriously, thank you Big!

She is, of course, very good at this. Seehttp://www.pbase.com/kmsmall/image/82855122/original

Yes, bascially that's correct. Otherwise the skiddish subjects fly away. It's also an issue of magnification. To get the required magnification and working distance a 300mm lens with about 56mm of extension tubes works out well.

Cool picture but I am truly amazed that she likes to photograph insects!! The longer the lens the better to keep one's distance?
