The scene looks amazingly innocent. Under the light powder of snow lies a layer of ice on top asphalt!
This resulted from a freezing rain followed by a layer of snow that the weatherman had forecast as 'light icing on bridges
and ovepasses' that evening. There are four such rather steep hills and several less steep but still significant stretches of
roadway along the two miles leading out of our Eastern Kentucky resort. The temperature never rose above freezing on this day
but the sun did shine sufficiently to sublimate most of the ice from the roadway by late afternoon. At that point we retrieved
the front wheel drive Tarus and returned to our cabin and waited until the second day to venture out. This time the roadways were clear.
