Mary Ann Calvert
John C. Breckenridge 'J.B.' Thompson's mother according to L.R. Forman who is J.B.'s grandson. Her death certificate gives her death as
March 5, 1929, signed by Dr. L.K. Swango of Moorefield, KY. Cause of death is listed as 'angina pectoris' or cardiac chest pain which
implies a myocardial infarction or heart attack. Age was 73 years, 2 months and 26 days with a birth date of December 9, 1855 in
Glasgow, Scotland. Her mother is listed as Mayme Holland of Scotland and father unknown to the informant, a neighbor, Jno A. Eden,
RR 1, Bethel, KY. She is buried beside her son, JB Thompson, with a Vice headstone. J.B.'s wife is Nora Belle Vice. Nora's father is
Meridith Holiday Vice and mother Mary E Reid and she, married name Mary E. Vice, is my great great grandmother.
So, how is it that her headstone reads Calvert? The search starts with her maiden name, listed as Mary A. Purvis on J.B.'s death certificate.
By searching census data we find that Andrew Thompson married Mary A. Purvis. Andrew died and Mary again married, this time, as a search
of the census data reveals, to Maximillion Calvert. Therefore she is buried beside her son J.B. with the headstone reading 'Mary A. Calvert'.
Mary A. Calvert is therefore J.B.'s mother, Luther's grandmother, Mary June's great grandmother
and my 2nd great grandmother.
