National Alliance on Mental Illness - Fundraising Walk 5/12/12 Back Cove, Portland, Me

The NAMI Walk is the annual fundraising event for an incredible organization. NAMI Maine does so much with relatively little funding, but they do an outstanding job in providing support to those individuals who are affected by mental illness.

In our 4th year of participation in this event the Unum team had their largest turnout ever with over 50 Unum employees, family and friends doing the walk. The strong turnout was due in large part to a desire to remember our good friend and co-worker, Greg Schlieper, who died way too soon in October 2011.

The weather, after 4 days of rain, could not have been better with welcome sun and blue skies. The team raised over $6,500 dollars to support NAMI. While funding is desperately needed, the greatest benefit was aprobably the large turnout of people who, by their growing numbers, will one day help to end the stigma of mental illness.
