Inside & Outside Portland Headlight February 23, 2008
I have visited the Portland Head Light in Fort Williams many times over the last 23 years since we live only a short distance away. It has been not been a manned lighthouse since the last Coast Guard family living in the keeper's house was replaced and the light was fully automated. The light tower is closed to the public. Thanks to a friendly Coast Guardsman, Andrew, today was only the second time in this period that I have been fortunate enough to have been up inside in light house tower. Andrew is an electrical technician and tends to all of the light houses serviced by the coast guard from Maine to Portsmouth NH. Thank you Andrew.
