Paying Tribute

I was privileged to be able to watch the 2010 event honoring the memory of those
lost in the attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001 from the 20th floor of the
World Center Hotel. I could only just make out some of what was being said, but
the overall impression made by the tribute held on this massive building site, was
one of extreme reverence. Family members, friends, first responders, uniformed
firefighters, police officers and military personnel all paid their respects by
tossing flowers into the pool in the center of the photo. To the right of the
circle of people is the edge of one of the two one acre memorial pools that are
part of the National September 11 Memorial.

I came away from the experience with a feeling I often have when I visit NYC -
the human spirit always seems to overcome the biggest obstacles. Even when
the human form is as dwarfed by the city's massive concrete, steel and glass
structures as in this photo.

Moving! Very moving. My heart still skips a beat when I think about that day. I still pray for the families. SEems like yesterday!
