These images were taken in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of New York City on a mild evening in late November. Hell's Kitchen is an area of Manhattan to the west of Times Square between 34th and 59th Streets from Eighth Avenue to the Hudson River. In the past, the neighborhood was famous for working class Irish Americans (and prominent sons and daughters) and for its proximity to the docks when Manhattan was still a very active port for the great ocean liners and freighters of the 1920's to 1950's. The area was a source of inspiration for the film "On the Waterfront" and the musical "West Side Story." The neighborhood still maintains some of its gritty charm of the last century.
