In Honor of Kalpana Chawla -- STS-107 Launch

January 16, 2003. The Space Shuttle Columbia was launched for the STS-107 mission bearing my friend Kalpana Chawla (K.C.). I had the opportunity to attend this launch as a VIP Guest. The sights and sounds were truly remarkable. She and her colleagues will never be forgotten. These pictures, which capture my joyous moments of that day, are in honor of her.

Jim: I reviewed your photos a second time, but with a totally new perspective on this extremely sad day. When you were at the launch, I can imagine the job and awe you felt for the technology developed by the minds of mere humans - as we have while also witnessing launches from the bridge across the wetland in Cocoa. With the flag of Isreal waving in honor of Ramone, and all relatives on hand to hope and pray, their pride on their faces along with in their hearts, we all hope today that a common bond and strength will continue to support all those involved with this program. Thankyou for sharing your photos with us. They have so much meaning, and we wish you solace on this day for feelings you may be having regarding your experience with this mission.
