We visited Gemund Christmas of 2005, and found it most delightful, especially the Christmas markets in the small towns and later Frankfurt, and Trier.. After returning home to TEXAS,, we did a bit more research on Gemund, some items such as the train tunnel thru the mountain and all the signs of WWII bombing of the area,, questioning why such a idealic village was bombed so heavily, we found out several things,, that explained most of our questons.
I am of German -Texian heritage, and have distant relatives in the Gemund area, so it was extra important for me to visit. Cologne was our favorite city, due to the history, but we did have a few problems there with the Moslem taxi drivers, but not serious.
The strong Euro, vrs the dollar will prevent us from returning to Gemund for another vactatiom and we regret that too.. It was a one shot deal for us thru RCI international and a trade of timeshares weeks..
Feel free to contact me at doug.traylor@cebridge.net, may be slow to answer.
