Concho Indian School

The original school was begun at The Darlington Agency in 1871.
It was moved to a wooden school at Concho near Ft Reno a few years later.
The building where I photographed the murals was closed in the early 1980's
which was the end of The Concho Indian School.

Some distance away I discovered this building.
I believe it bridged the gap between the first and last school but there may have been others.
After the classrooms were moved from this building it was used as living quarters for the children and teachers.
Children first grade through eighth grade were taught here then were moved to
Carlisle Indian School in Pennysylvania which is much more famous possibly because of the major Hollywood film "Jim Thorpe, All American" made in 1951.

Fantastic, and an image to be included in another chapter from what I will speculate is a bleak part of US history.

A haunting capture made more ominous with the birds and mostly barren trees. The tones and IR look enhances the feeling of solitude, desolation and finality. A powerful and well presented image. VVV

An incredibly ominous looking image made more so by the combination of the birds with the jail like building and further emphasized but the IR treatment. Truly a masterpiece image! ~VVV~

A ghostly view of the old school. Nicely captured with the trees on either side and the birds overhead. V

Haunting. Full of sadness and lost promise. Fitting to have circling birds above. V

The potent desolate mood of circling birds, the winter trees, and abandoned building speak volumes of the history of such schools.

a potent image...a wise POV, and a resonant moment with the restless birds haunting the old structure...the IR look suits the subject so well too..

Excellent monochrome nice point of view for the presentation.
A shame they did not keep up this good size building for other purposes
for the Concho Indian population and the surrounding community.
A very nice exposure with the bright foreground and the darker building.
Information excellent.

Love how you positioned yourself to frame the building perfectly between the trees. This works so well in mono. Thanks for the information in the narrative.

A very nostalgic mood enforced by the birds turning in the sky and the Virginia creeps on the walls. A superb work again. V.

A grim looking derelict particularly in Winter. The state should assist in saving the place as a monument relating to the Indian tribes of the area.
The birds add to the feeling of desolation. "VV"
