This new gallery will be a bit personal. About my places.
My dad would have said it is "from our neck of the woods".
I never understood this because as you can see WE HAVE NO WOODS!

The story of this photo. I decided last Friday that after leaving work for my 40 mile drive home I would go to this particular location to make some photographs. Important fact #1. I am in dress clothes. important fact #2. Where I wanted to go was about one half mile from the road I was traveling on. Pretty rugged country. Important fact #3. I am sometimes an idiot.

Now I am at my preferred destination happily shooting away. I am facing South which is the direction our storms come from.
Suddenly the wind picks up and changes direction now coming from the North. I turn around and am greeting by the scene that you see here.
I made this quick shot and hurried (for me) to my car. Unfortunately the 80 MPH winds, rain and hail did not wait on me.

Tomorrow I will post the image that I went after in the first place.

I hope you are entertained by this journey.

I'm delighted by your story (and a beautiful picture to show for it). Also nice to hear that I'm not the only self-described "idiot" out there. :-) I wouldn't change it for the world - yeah, you get rained on sometimes, but think of all you'd miss. Having a giggle about you going through this in dress-up clothes, though.

Amazing...a footprint , or rather a larege mammelian track in the clouds.

The perils of the passionate photographer. Glad you ventured out to retrieve this fine image, which from my perspective is well-worth getting rained and hailed on. Hope you are none the worse for wear after the experience!

Your 'neck of the woods' looks like it would be fascinating in any light; in this light it is dramatic as well.

It does look ominous "when the wind comes before the rain" but it has a beauty. I am looking forward to see your reminisces through your photos as I relate to this type of terrain. "V"
