American Bison Roaming In The Wichitas

Photographing a free range buffalo with a wide angle lens may not have been my smartest decision but it turned out OK. There are about 650 of them in the Wichita Mountains.

The wide angle was a good choice and shows the bison in context - which I find to be effective and beautiful!

Wonderful shot, I am very happy that this kind of scenes can still be found in an American prairie ! BV

Love the composition. V

With a long lens you would have got a portrait of a buffalo, with the wide lens you got a portrait of the "West".

Sometimes we go out on a limb to get "the" picture...and you got it.
Kevin Warren16-Jan-2012 14:40
I like how the bison's back mimics the curve of the background hills, in turned mimicked by the line of the sweeping clouds, nicely done!

Great chance to see this vision , of great space with this full of symbols animal ...
Another good picture for my memory.

The shot is beautiful and you survived it. A Bison can run 30 mph.

Outstanding composition! Love the tones & light! V~

I love it! I think using a wide angle was an excellent idea so that the buffalo is still apparent and a major part of the image, having the whole vista really makes it tell the story of what it's like to be there. ~BV~

Great creativity in this shot and the entire gallery! Love it~ I traveled up to the Wachita mountains a couple months ago but didn't "see" the same shots as you did~ Great work! V.

Hopefully you didn't have to run from the beast after taking its pic
Not like last time right dad?

Wonderful image!! Perhaps also symbolic, considering the lonely bison Roaming in the Wichitas. Fortunately, as far as i know, the number of bisons in America has increased since the worst times for bisons. Anyway, very beautiful image! V

This has the look of something taken in the 1800's, with the exception of course that the photographic quality is way too good. Classic! ~V~

You were claiming my pictures to be pretty good - seeing yours I know how much I had to learn. Excellent fantastic light and composition. With an wide angle you must have been pretty near to the best (correction my self: fantastic animal). v
Guest 03-Oct-2009 15:22
They sure know how to camouflage themselves, I can only count .... one....! :)
