This municipal pier is only one-third its original length - still it stretches an impressive distance out into San Francisco Bay. The remainder of the pier was simply abandoned to rot due to expense and liability issues.

The pier was crowded on this particular day - despite some fairly stiff winds blowing through The Gate. Alcatraz Island and The Golden Gate Bridge are seen in the distance.
