Carquinez Strait Ruins

The extensive pilings here point to the historic importance of the commerce that once dominated these waters. In the late 19th century - 80% of all grain shipments departing California were loaded here. Ships bound for the orient and even as far away as England were commonplace.

The hillsides in the distance were undeveloped until a few years ago. These homes point to the rapid expansion of the town of Benicia and the city of Vallejo.
