This dramatic lighthouse is located about 45 kilometers northwest of the Point Bonita Light - which guards the entrance to The Golden Gate. Point Reyes Light is situated at the opening to Drake's Bay.
The stairs pictured in this image represent a fraction of those required to enter or leave the facility. The sign at the top of the stairway warn that the climb you are about to make 'is the equivalent to that of a 32-story building'.
The lighthouse had to be situated well down this rock escarpment to have the light below the fog that typically forms here during the summer months.
