Ruins along the south shoreline of the Carquinez Strait - near Port Costa, California
There are thousands of these old pilings along this three mile stretch of the narrow strait.
The pilings - most of them showing signs of fire damage - once supported wharves and warehouses. This
busy center of early California commerce became obsolete after a railroad bridge was constructed near here in 1930.
