Obersee

The Obersee, located south of the Königssee, is a natural mountain lake in the Berchtesgaden Alps in Upper Bavaria. With a length of 1.32 km, a width of 0.42 km, and a circumference of 3.5 km, it covers a surface area of 57 hectares and has a water volume of 16,855,000 m³. It is separated from the Königssee by a moraine ridge , which was formed by a landslide in 1172. The Fischunkelalm , a 500-year-old alpine pasture, lies on the southern shore and is managed by two dairymaids from mid-May to mid-October.High rock faces frame the lake, while the Röthbachfall , Germany's highest waterfall, plunges from the 470-meter-high Röthwand. The streams converge and flow underground into the Fischunkel before emptying into the Obersee. The Obersee feeds the Königssee via the Saletbach and widens into the small Mittersee halfway to the Königssee.
