Rapperswil. Curtihaus

The Curti House was built around 1492 by Hans von Matt as a residence. The name "Curti" comes from Johann Jakob Curti, who bought the house in 1658. It remained in the Curti family for several generations until it was sold to the city of Rapperswil in 1889.
The architecture of the Curti House is unique and, due to various renovations over the centuries, incorporates elements from different eras. It is particularly known for its late Gothic style, evident in its beautiful oriel window supported by two wild men – a typical architectural detail for houses of this period.
Furthermore, the painted facade, depicting scenes from local legends and history, is a sight to behold – another distinctive feature that lends this historic building its charm. The paintings were added during renovations in 1926-27 under the architect Armin Meili.
