The Church of the Holy Cross is located in Kaysersberg , at the foot of the ruins of a fortified castle . The artistic treasures of the church bear witness to the developments of the 15th/16th centuries . Shortly after the founding of the town by the Hohenstaufen, the church was built in 1227 .Two different architectural concepts merge into a single field of tension. Romanesque designs are increasingly interspersed with Gothic elements . Heavy, massive buildings increasingly have to give way to the new lightness and functional elegance of the emerging Gothic. The culmination of the tension between the two styles is reached by visitors in the sacred shrine.
