Valderrobres. Iglesia de Santa María la Mayor

The parish church of Santa María la Mayor de Valderrobres is located in the highest area of the old town, next to the castle, jointly dominating the entire valley in which the town sits. It can be accessed by walking through the steep alleys that start from Plaza de España or Santiago Hernández and La Paz streets, although it can also be reached in a more comfortable, but less emotional way, by car, from the city itself. Plaza de España, through Calle del Carmen or from Burrull, before entering Valderrobres along the Tortosa road. The work was carried out in two phases, the first, between 1321 and 1349, basically coincides with the archbishopric of Don Pedro López de Luna and covers almost the entire church. The second began during the prelature of Don García Fernández, in 1409, when said archbishop granted the vicar and jurors of Valderrobres the privilege of this place for ten years to "repair the church."
