View from the Castle
The origin of this small town on the Ribera d'Ebre called Miravet is Iberian. The archaeological excavations carried out in the Castle corroborate this Iberian origin, with the remains of a sufficiently prominent settlement.The profusion of this type of settlement, along the river, and Miravet's strategic situation, both from a defensive and economic point of view, support this assumption. During the Roman Empire, although no remains of constructions have been found, it is clear that it would continue to be a space of control and dominion over the territory.In 715 the Saracens conquered Tortosa and, therefore, would occupy the strategic hill of Miravet. Surely the construction of a Castle would not be carried out until the 11th century with the creation of the Taifa Kingdom of Tortosa when the fortification of the border with the Catalan counts would begin.
