Eisenach. Georgenkirche

Bach's baptismal church and Luther's place of worship: main church of St. Georgen
If the walls could speak, they would have a lot to tell: Saint Elisabeth of Thuringia, Martin Luther, Johann Sebastian Bach are just as closely linked to the main evangelical church of St. Georgen as Georg Philipp Telemann and Johann Pachelbel.Johann Sebastian Bach's baptistery was built by Ludwig III at the end of the 12th century. founded. The 14-year-old daughter of the Hungarian king, Elisabeth Ludwig IV, married in this church. Martin Luther sang here as a student in the choir and later preached in the church shortly before he was taken to the Wartburg for his protection. In the baptistery of Johann Sebastian Bach, members of his family played on the organ bench for more than 132 years. The Wartburg festival of the fraternities in 1817 also started here, as did the prayers for peace in 1989.
