The most important and largest square in the city center: Maximilianplatz, which the locals call Maxplatz. As soon as you ask about Maximilianplatz, you are out as a tourist. The Baroque town hall,built by Balthasar Neumann between 1732 and 1737 , is the focal point of Maxplatz. The size and popularity of the square means that it is used in very different ways. Whether events, cultural events or the fruit and vegetable market that takes place on weekdays, the winter counterpart of which is the Christmas market.Other baroque buildings and historic houses stretch around Bamberg's Maxplatz, leading to beautiful corners of the city that are not to be scoffed at.To ensure that the people of Bamberg are supplied with the best fruit and vegetables, Bamberg gardeners offer their goods on weekdays at the fruit and vegetable market .
