The main post office is a building built as an imperial main post office according to the design of the building department in the Reich post office in Berlin under August Kind (floor plan) and Julius Carl Raschdorff (elaboration). Neo-Gothic style forms were chosen for the architectural design. It was planned by the architect Klamodt. Previously there were houses from the Middle Ages , including two patrician houses . The main post office is a corner building, with the main post tower on its corner. The spire of the main post tower was damaged by artillery fire in April 1945destroyed and then rebuilt in a simplified form until 1949.In 1885 there was a dispute with the construction department of the Ministry of Labor regarding the overdraft of construction costs or the insufficient reduction of construction costs for post office buildings, in which the new construction of Erfurt was also discussed. Despite these internal disputes, the post and telegraph building was completed in 1886 for a total construction cost of 722,000 marks on the Anger.
