One of the most beautiful and oldest houses in the city is located in the Great Arche, an old alley that runs parallel to Erfurt Cathedral Square. It is not uncommon for petals to be scattered on the ground in front of the entrance. Since December 1st, 1988, the building has been used by Erfurt residents as a wedding house and registry office and offers a picturesque setting for wedding photos. The "Haus zum Sonneborn" dates from the Renaissance period. Little is known about its history. It can be assumed that this house also once served as a granary. The two holes in the wall next to the entrance indicate that it was used as a beer farmAt the beginning of the 1980s, however, it was so dilapidated that its demolition was considered .Fortunately, the city fathers then decided to restore or reconstruct it. The magnificent Renaissance portal of 1536 and some half-timbering have been preserved, as well as the two sgraffitos depicting Beauty (or Vanity?) and Justice.
