Petrini building on the market square
A very controversial building is the Petrini building on the market square, where the VR Bank is located. The people of Würzburg themselves are not very enthusiastic about the construction. As early as 1685, the home of the well-known Franconian master builder Antonio Petrini stood on the site, with sculptures and a decorated facade. This was destroyed in the course of the bombing raid on the city center of Würzburg in the Second World War and has not been rebuilt since. In 2008 the new building came into being, which did not really suit the taste of the people of Würzburg: too big, too modern, too reflective and too sparse, according to the reactions of the citizens. In any case, the Petrini House does not represent a Venus among the buildings and is one of the most unattractive buildings in Würzburg - at least that is the prevailing opinion of the people of Würzburg. Seen in the context of urban planning, some would have preferred the unobstructed view of the fortress.
