Würzburg. Petrini-Haus

Petrini building on the market square
A very controversial building is the Petrini building on the market square, where the VR Bank is located. The people of Würzburg themselves are not very enthusiastic about the construction. As early as 1685, the home of the well-known Franconian master builder Antonio Petrini stood on the site, with sculptures and a decorated facade. This was destroyed in the course of the bombing raid on the city center of Würzburg in the Second World War and has not been rebuilt since.In 2008 the new building came into being, which did not really suit the taste of the people of Würzburg: too big, too modern, too reflective and too sparse, according to the reactions of the citizens. In any case, the Petrini House does not represent a Venus among the buildings and is one of the most unattractive buildings in Würzburg - at least that is the prevailing opinion of the people of Würzburg. Seen in the context of urban planning, some would have preferred the unobstructed view of the fortress.

I think the architect did a very good job integrating a modern building into the surrounding. Using some style elements (e.g. roof form, height), add modern ones, not giving in to making it "look like the existing buildings". Compare to the facade on the left: that is imho much less adapted to the location.

Tastes differ :=)

It's funny how the people who pay the wages of the decision makers are never heard...

It stand out because it doesn't fit in.

A very utilitarian building that doesn’t fit with its grand neighbors. V

A very different looking building for this area. I can see why it was controversial.

Love all those lines and geometric shapes.

Very unusual building that does look a bit out of place with the old architecture. V.

This building would perhaps better fit in a different locale. I think it actually does not look too bad.
