Schönbornstrasse connects Kürschnerhof and Marktplatz with Dominikanerplatz .The formerly very narrow alley used to be called Sandgasse , after the ground formation. In 1895 and 1896 the old farms in the Sandgasse - Klingenberg, the Hohe Laube ( Neumünsterscher Stiftshof ), the Neubrunn, the Sonne , Schwalbungen or Schwalbach, the big Weibler, the small Weibler, the Hackenbrunnen , then the well-known Sandhof (see Schönbornstr 3) - pulled down to widen the road. The Schönbornstraße with its new commercial buildings was created.Schoenbornstr. 3 (today Galeria Kaufhof ): This is where the front part of the Sandhof, first mentioned in 1277, stood on the corner of Maulhardgasse . The new building first housed a post office, then it was used by the Siegmund Ruschkewitz department storeacquired and modified for his purposes. Up to this point, it was believed that department stores were a recent phenomenon.
