The Sanctuary of Mercy was built on the site where, according to legend, in 1592 the Virgin Mary appeared to the shepherdess Isabel Besora, a fact that freed the city from the scourge of the plague.
It is a Renaissance-style building that has undergone different transformations over the years. The interior is decorated with fresco paintings by Josep Franquet, Joaquim Juncosa and Joan Juncosa. The plan is of a Latin cross with a square apse and cambril. The high altar is a reconstruction of the old baroque altar. At the end of the right arm of the cross is the altar of Santa Marina. Right next to the sanctuary is the Chapel of the Apparition, which indicates the exact place of the apparition of the Virgin Mary.
