Created at the turn of the 18th century, Els Hostalets d'en Bas is the most modern municipality in Vall d'en Bas. The present-day town of Els Hostalets stands at what was the midpoint of the camí ral (royal way) from Vic to Olot. Several inns sprang up around this road to provide travellers with food and accommodation, which finally led to the creation of one of the prettiest and most picturesque towns in Catalonia.
