It is one of the most unique villages in Costa Brava. His geographical situation did that Cadaqués was isolated until the XIXth century. This distintive feature has permited to preserve the original condition of its picturesque and narrow streets. As a whole, the city centre of Cadaqués is an historical protected area and it was declared Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional.
Its excellent beaches and coves were an inspiration for the great painter, Salvador Dalí, who fixed his residence in Portlligat.
