Fauna and flora to see and hear
Try this exercise: when you walk around the Estany, stop for a moment. Watch and listen. Look on the ground, among the plants. Count how many different insects, birds, trees and smells you come across. You won't run out of them. The animal and plant diversity that is linked to a lake basin such as that of Banyoles includes a long list of species: from birds such as mallards, mallards or grebes to mammals such as the otter, reptiles such as water snakes, fish such as eels and barbs, more than three hundred species of butterflies, or flora such as fainting trees, poplars, alder, rushes, water lilies or horsetail.
