Sint Janskerk in Gouda – longest church in the Netherlands with a length of 123 meters.
The oldest part of the church building dates back around 1280. Sint Janskerk was built dedicated to John the Baptist, Gouda’s patron saint. Originally a Catholic church, Sint Janskerk became a Protestant place of worship in 1573 as a result of the Dutch Revolt.Sint Janskerk is world famous for its 72 Goudse Glazen stained-glass windows, also widely known as the Gouda Windows. Each of these original windows tell remarkable biblical and historical stories on its own and about 60 of them were created from the years 1530 to 1603. Some of the windows are as tall as 20 meters high. They are beautifully preserved and the glass panes depict stories like comic books.
