High on a hill watching the sea, opposite the cemetery, there is a monument to the Marquis de Comillas (Antonio López), built in 1890. The original plan was to Cristóbal Cascante but was Lluís Domènech i Montaner that led him to end with a few changes in the ornamental elements. The modernist monument consists of a high pedestal in the shape of the bow of the ship on which stands the statue of the Marquis, accompanied by statues of women (now disappeared), allegorical of his trips in the Philippines and the Netherlands, which were made in bronze by Venancio Vallmijana. The column and pedestal are richly decorated with marine motifs and scenes from the life of the Marquis. This monument is a tribute to the Marquis de Comillas of the country, for the great benefits brought to the town.
