With its 22 meters high, its 37 meter diameter cup and a shadow that covers an area of about 1000 square meters, the Parterre ficus tree is surely the most spectacular of the city. This impressive monument plant was planted in the Parterre in 1852 along with other exotic species. The 1957 flood devastated the original garden and this copy of Ficus macrophylla was one of the few survivors. It is easy to find groups of tourists photographing this one of the most photographed monuments in the city.
