The Bancaja Cultural Centre is a reference point and landmark building in the city of Valencia, not only for its activity in welfare projects and cultural programmes, but also for its emblematic value. This building is the result of the union of two historic buildings: the headquarters of the former Monte de Piedad de Valencia savings bank, dating back to the beginning of the XX century, and the former residence of Manuel Gómez Fos, at the end of the XIX century. The renovation project, undertaken in 2007 by the architects Pablo Martínez Montesa, José Ricardo Martínez Montesa and José Alberto Jordá Albiñana, gave rise to the union of both these buildings and gave birth to the present Bancaja Cultural Centre as it is today, with a surface area of 12,000 square metres.
