Charity Doorway in the Nativity Façade
the middle doo4way, named for Charity of Christian Love, "expresses the verve and joy of life" according to Gaudí, and is the entrance to the Temple.To produce the many sculptures that must illustrate and ador the Church both outside and inside, Gaudí employed the method of making casts of the faces of the people working on the Temple, and of the children, women and men who died in the Hospital of La Santa Creu. Later he tood several photographs of each from different angles, using mirrors.What was perhaps innovative was calculating the degree of distortion involved with each figure, depending on the great or lesser height from the ground that each was situated, so that they would all appear of natural size seen from below.
