The oldest part of the former prisonl is the yellow half-timbered house with 30 bays of two storeys. The main building is a 2½-storey, yellow brick construction with a frontispiece at the top. On the half-timbered wing there is a tablet with the inscription; 'Et dobbelt nyttigt Huus, som dobbelt Nytte bringer. Det lærer Flittighed og Betleriet tvinger' ('A House of double Usefulness that double Benefit brings. It teaches Industry and conquers Beggars'). The tablet was originally placed on one of the demolished wings.
