The Avenida Palace Hotel – the only Palace in the centre of Lisbon – was designed towards the end of the 19th Century by the master architect José Luís Monteiro, one of Portugal’s most celebrated architects, who also designed the nearby Rossio Station. It was built using the most advanced techniques and the best materials in existence at the time.
This iconic hotel, opened in 1892, was regarded, notably in Belle Époque, as one of the best in Europe on account of its stylishness, location and standard of service.
