The old town area of Thun mainly arose in the 12th century, when Berchtold V of Zähringen built Thun Castle and extended the city around today’s Hauptgasse.
The unique high pavements that characterise the upper part of the Hauptgasse are worth a visit for their unique architecture alone. Quaint boutiques, trendy shops, upmarket shops and trendy bars also invite you to browse, stroll and look around.
The mix of residential and business premises and the central location with a variety of nightlife in the immediate vicinity makes the old town of Thun particularly attractive as a residential and living area.
