Trujillo. Iglesia de San Martin

The church was built during the first half of the 16th century with additions in the later part of that century, and incorporated part of a 14th century building damaged during the war of succession to the Castilian throne. The door of Las Limas, built in about 1492, is where the Trujillo town council used to meet and is also where the Emperor Charles the fifth was received in 1526 and his son Philip the second in 1583. The architecture of the church is typical of that period and is of the Extremaduran architectural style exported to the New World. In the interior it is worth noting the baroque altar screen and the baroque 18th century organ. Also notable are various paintings including one oil dating from the 15th century.
