Across the river from much of the city and in fact almost an island in the Guadalquivir river, Triana residents (or trianeros) have always considered themselves a bit apart and are fiercely proud of their community.Crossing the river into Triana you’ll see two of the main icons of the district: the 19th century Isabel II bridge, commonly known as the Puente de Triana, and the Moorish Revival church, Chapel of El Carmen dating from 1927. These are now both protected national monuments after a threat to destroy them in the 1970s.
