Samaniego is the municipality of Rioja Alavesa where with more clarity can be seen the expansion of the wine culture across the recent centuries.
The main consequence of this is the high level of specialization acquired by the local wine farmers, currently being Samaniego the local economic tractor for wine related production.
From the 1980s, an important number of local wine farmers start making, either in newly built bodegas either in antique ones, with properly equipped installations and according to mercantile criteria and attention to quality and know-how, the outstanding wine we are all familiar with.
