In 1899, just one year before starting upon the adventure of urbanizing the Muntanya Pelada, Gaudí alowed himself one last historicist homage, this time to Baroque Art, with the construction of Casa Calvet´s façade, in Barcelona. In contrast, not even one trace of influence of classical art can be found in the architet´s work, except for Park Güell´s market place, whose doric columns clearly show Greek inspiration. Scholars point out that this exception to the rule came about on the park developer Eusebi Güell´s insistence, that he wanted his urbanization to emulate the Hellenic Ideals of harmony and equilibrium that were embodied in the Temple of Apollo in Delphi, one of the park´s great symbolic references.
