The Modernist Casa Macaya is a 1901 project of Josep Puig i Cadafalch. The distinctive white facade is adorned with ochre details by Joan Paradís and iron grates by Manuel Ballarín. At first sight, the facade might seem rather austere; however, this impression is changed once the viewer observes the great ornamentationin the worked stone on the balconies and window frames, crafted by the architect’s frequent collaborators, Eusebi Arnau and Alfons Juyol. The curious figure of a cyclist to the left of the main entrance is a tribute to Puig i Cadafalch himself. While working on Casa Macaya, he was also supervising the construction of Casa Amatller and moved between the two by bicycle.
