Arcos de la Frontera

view map

Arcos de la Frontera is particularly striking, perched high and overlooking a sheer crumbling cliff face, known as La Peņa Nueva. If driving from the Ronda direction this is the first stunning view of Arcos you will see. Dominating the cliff edge are the remains and walls of the 11th century castle and other buildings that form the historical heart of Arcos.
Although Arcos was first settled by the Romans it is well known for being one of the most picturesque villages in the area attracting thousands of visitors annually. It was occupied by the Moors for centuries until the Christians took it back in 1264.

I'd say it looks like something between a photograph and a watercolor. Just beautiful!
