Is settled down on an archeological site of the Bronze Age. It´s a sacred place since time immemorial. It was built over the ruins of the old mosque and transformed into a Christian church after the conquest of the city in 1233 by Ferdinand III, the Saint. The Church is dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption with the patronage of the royal Alcazar.
The Church, seriously damaged during the Spanish Civil War wasn´t close for restoration until 1983, the process lasted almost 28 yars. The Virgin of Guadalupe, patron saint, receives nowdays worship in the chapel of this temple in the months from may to september
